Travelers Cos., the only insurer in the Dow Jones Industrial Average, increased the number of directors on its board from 11 to 12.
The board elected Philip T. Ruegger III as a director, the insurer said in a regulatory filing.
According to the Travelers wesbite, Ruegger served as chairman of the law firm of Simpson Thacher & Bartlett LLP from 2004 until his retirement in 2013. He was a member of the firm’s executive committee from 1993 through June 2013. Ruegger joined Simpson Thacher in 1974 and became a partner in 1981. At Simpson Thacher, he advised clients on mergers and acquisitions, corporate governance, investigations, corporate finance and general corporate and securities law matters. Ruegger is chairman of the board of the Henry Street Settlement and is an honorary trustee of the Natural Resources Defense Council.
