Reflecting on his tenure a few months before the end of his final term as North Dakota Commissioner, Adam Hamm told Carrier Management why becoming a national leader in insurance regulation was an important part of his career plan.

“North Dakota has a pretty unique history” with former commissioner Earl Pomeroy becoming NAIC president, as well as his brother, Glenn Pomeroy, and Poolman serving as an NAIC officer and a leader on life insurance issues. “I knew I had very big shoes to fill, so I purposely spent that first couple of years at the NAIC developing a reputation as someone who knew and understood the issues, first and foremost, and as someone who’s willing to work hard [and] build consensus between the commissioners so that we could move issues forward.”
