2018 Update to the U.S. Geological Survey National Volcanic Threat Assessment

Overview

According to this new study, “The United States is one of Earth’s most volcanically active countries, having within its territory more than 10 percent of the known active and potentially active volcanoes…”

California, Hawaii, Washington State and Alaska have experienced devastation over the last 38 years due to lava flows, powerful explosions, debris avalanches, mudflows, noxious gas emissions and ash fall.

This 50 page report provides ranking of all volcanoes by location and severity, and discussions of each of the active and potentially active locations.
