Executives on the Move at QBE NA, Gallagher, Grange

QBE North America promoted Michael Foley to president, Commercial Insurance. He will be responsible for planning, directing and executing the vision for lines of business including Middle Market, Commercial Casualty, Workers Comp Programs and Commercial Property Programs.

In his new role, Foley will join QBE North America’s Executive Management Board and report to Todd Jones, QBE North America chief executive officer.

Foley was previously chief underwriting officer for QBE’s Commercial Casualty business. Before joining QBE in April 2022, he most recently served as the global CUO for Casualty and Healthcare at Berkshire Hathaway Specialty Insurance (BHSI), and before that held a variety of leadership roles at AIG, including chief operating officer for the Programs Division of Lexington Insurance. He started his insurance career in the middle-market business at The Harford.

Gallagher, a global insurance brokerage, risk management and consulting services firm, announced that James Kent has been promoted to a new role with Gallagher as CEO, Global Insurance Strategic Relationships. He will be responsible for establishing and driving the framework that determines how Gallagher connects with its major strategic partners in the re/insurance eco-system, including further investment in capital advisory and portfolio solutions.

He will report jointly to Doug Howell and Tom Gallagher in this new role.

Following the necessary transition period, Tom Wakefield will be appointed as successor to Kent in the role of CEO of Gallagher Re.

Grange Insurance has named Carrie Maun-Smith as its new assistant vice president of Diversity, Equity & Inclusion and Community Relations, effective the beginning of April, as former leader Priscilla Hammondssteps down from the role to relocate to Florida.

With Grange Insurance for nearly nine years, Maun-Smith has previously served as VP, Enterprise Strategy and AVP, Customer Experience and Digital Transformation. She also helped Grange’s DEI advisory council develop an enterprise-wide DEI strategy and currently serves as the executive co-sponsor of the Pride associate resource group, which “strives to promote a safe, friendly, and rewarding work environment for all company associates.” In addition, Maun-Smith is an active community leader involved in numerous non-profit organizations, including Maryhaven Inc., New Directions Career Center and A Kid Again.

Prior to joining Grange, Maun-Smith held several leadership positions during her 12 years with Safelite AutoGlass, most recently as AVP, Operational Excellence and AVP, Customer Conversion. Before her time with Safelite, she led strategic initiatives, projects and planning for Wendy’s/Arby’s Group Inc.
