The Latest Launches from Applied Underwriters, The Hanover, PAK Programs

Applied Underwriters announced the formation of Applied Entertainment & Sports, a new division of the company that will consolidate existing business and add new business in an entertainment and sports unit headquartered in Los Angeles with a New York satellite office.

The enterprise’s debut follows several recent acquisitions and commercial business introductions. The division will be led by two sector leaders with Jerid Schmickle serving as CEO. Schmickle previously was president of Reel Media Insurance Services, served as founding managing director of Alive Risk, and was a senior director at Allianz/Fireman’s Fund Global Entertainment. He will be joined by Tim Troester, who will serve as chief operating officer. Troester was formerly executive vice president at Reel Media and senior director at Alive Risk. Before that, he held executive positions at One Beacon and Nationwide.

The division will write on both an E&S and admitted basis to provide general liability, excess/umbrella, professional, workers compensation, contingency — such as cancellation, non-appearance, prize indemnity, and weather — inland marine including floaters for instruments and jewelry, and excess coverage for film and TV events. Applied Entertainment & Sports expects to introduce new programs and product availabilities over the next several quarters, according to a company press release.

The Hanover Insurance Group Inc., a property/casualty insurance company, announced the launch of its Hanover i-on Sensor Program, which offers a set of technology-based services to help business and organization owners prevent workplace injuries, property damage, theft and other losses offered through strategic partnerships. PAK Programs, a specialty insurer of alcoholic beverage manufacturers and distributors, announced the expansion of Brewery PAK, an insurance provider for breweries nationwide, to include coverage for brewpubs and gastropubs with brewing operations on premises.

Brewpubs and gastropubs focused on hospitality and food services now have access to Brewery PAK’s entire suite of coverages and policies designed to support owners and operators as they navigate a variety of risks. Previously, coverage was limited to breweries, brewpubs and gastropubs that made the majority of their profits from selling beer.

Brewpubs and gastropubs with brewing operations on premises will now have access to PAK Programs’ risk management services including iRAD technology, which uses risk assessment drones to provide policyholders with risk profiles. Policyholders are also provided with property inspections to complement PAK’s coverage offerings.

PAK Programs, founded in 1996, designs, administers and markets customized insurance programs for wineries and vineyards, breweries, wine and liquor retailers, cideries, meaderies, distilleries, and liquor and wine importers and distributors.
