Executives on the Move at Allstate, MEMIC, Deloitte

Don Civgin, vice chair and CEO, Protection Products and Services at Allstate, has announced his decision to retire, effective May 1.

Civgin joined the company as chief financial officer in 2008, became president and CEO of Allstate Financial in 2012, and vice chair of The Allstate Corporation in 2019.

With Civgin’s retirement, Terrance Williams will become president, Protection Products and Services.

The MEMIC Group Board of Directors has approved the appointment of Eileen Moran Fongemie to the position of senior vice president and chief financial officer, effective May 1. Fongemie, who becomes only the third CFO in MEMIC history, will also assume the role of corporate treasurer.

Fongemie succeeds SVP and CFO Dan McGarvey, who announced his retirement last month after 13 years with MEMIC.

Fongemie joined MEMIC in 2007 and has served as VP, Finance, since 2016. She is a Certified Public Accountant and has earned her Chartered Property Casualty Underwriter and Workers’ Compensation Professional designations.

Fongemie currently serves on the MEMIC Retirement Advisory Committee, the Connecticut Insurance Guarantee Fund Board of Directors and the Massachusetts Insurers Insolvency Fund Board of Directors, as well the Audit Committees of Guaranty Fund Management Services, the Vermont Property & Casualty Insurance Guaranty Association, the District of Columbia Insurance Guaranty Association, and the New Hampshire Guaranty Association. She also is former chairwoman and member of the Finance and Investment Committee of the American Association of State Compensation Insurance Funds.

Karl Hersch has been named the leader of advisory firm Deloitte’s U.S. insurance sector within the organization’s financial services industry practice. In this role, he will oversee more than 3,200 practitioners providing services to organizations across the insurance industry.

Hersch has 30 years of experience and has held numerous leadership roles, serving as the U.S. insurance consulting practice leader since 2019.

Hersch will succeed Gary Shaw, who will continue to focus on the organization’s largest accounts. During his tenure, Shaw oversaw the exponential growth of the U.S. insurance practice while also serving as the lead client service partner for a major global insurance company.
