Insurers, Brokers Among Those Named World’s Most Ethical Companies

March 23, 2022

Two property/casualty insurers and two brokers were included within a list compiled by Ethisphere of the most ethical companies in the world.

The 16th annual report from Ethisphere, a company that defines and measures corporate ethical standards and promotes best practices in corporate ethics, includes Allstate and The Hartford as well as Gallagher and Marsh McLennan.

“The moment is now, and the data is clear—companies must lead on sustainability, social issues and governance. The World’s Most Ethical Companies understand that the capitalism of today and tomorrow is one that demonstrates how we turn our ideals into action,” said Ethisphere CEO Timothy Erblich, in a statement. “Congratulations to the 2022 honorees for their dedication to advancing business integrity, for leadership on tough issues, and demonstrating that doing good is key to successful, long-term performance.”

Marsh McLennan is one of 14 companies to be named World’s Most Ethical Companies for the first time. The Hartford has been named 13 of the 16 years Ethisphere has handed out the award. Gallagher appeared on the list for the 12th time, and Allstate has received the designation eight years.

Ethisphere said its methodology includes 200 data points on culture, environmental and social practices, ethics and compliance, governance, and diversity, equity and inclusion, among others. This year Ethisphere also included questions related to the COVID-19 pandemic and the effectiveness of risk assessment efforts.

The company said doing the right thing is also good for business. According to Ethisphere, organizations named among the World’s Most Ethical Companies historically outperform their peers and competitors financially.

The companies will be honored during a virtual gala on April 12, which will feature keynote addresses by actor Matthew McConaughey and sportscaster Ernie Johnson.
