Executives on the Move at Root, Zurich, Ategrity

Root Inc. announced that Rob Bateman will join the InsurTech as the company’s new chief financial officer, effective April 11.

Bateman most recently served as president and CFO of startup excess and surplus lines carrier Ategrity Specialty Insurance Company. Prior to that, Bateman served as CFO of Infinity Property & Casualty Corporation. His experience also includes roles as CFO at COUNTRY Financial, multiple progressive leadership roles at The Hartford and a senior manager role at KPMG.

Root CEO and Co-Founder Alex Timm said that Bateman’s “established background and depth of experience across the insurance industry is the right combination to lead our finance organization through the next phase of our journey.”

In September of 2021, Root announced that previous CFO Dan Rosenthal would be taking on the role of chief revenue and operating officer. He has served in both roles as the national search for the new CFO was conducted.

Tobias Cushing

Zurich North America has appointed Tobias Cushing as head of Construction Casualty for U.S. National Accounts, which serves large corporate and captive customers. He will be based in Schaumburg.

Cushing comes to Zurich from The Hartford, where he most recently was head of Construction for Middle & Large Commercial. He held a number of leadership positions in his nearly 12 years at The Hartford, including chief underwriting officer for Construction and head of Field Underwriting and Sales. He also has insurance litigation experience, having previously worked for Saxe Doernberger & Vita, P.C.

Ategrity Specialty Holdings has appointed David Rosenzweig as chief financial officer.

Rosenzweig has been a consultant with the company since last year and was previously CFO at Global Atlantic insurance company.

Ategrity launched in 2018, focusing on the excess and surplus (E&S) lines market, and in 2021 received $75 million in capital from Sequentis Financial LLC. The company posted 17 percent annualized return on equity for fourth-quarter 2021. Ategrity’s offerings include commercial E&S property and casualty business on a primary and excess basis.
