Executives on the Move at QBE, TigerRisk, Bain Capital Insurance

QBE has appointed Kevin Shallow as director of Underwriting and product head for Marine, subject to regulatory approval.

He takes over from Tim Pembroke, who will be retiring on March 31 after nearly 38 years in the marine insurance industry, including over 24 years with QBE.

Shallow is currently a portfolio manager within the Marine division. He joined QBE in 2005 and has more than 16 years’ experience in the industry, including time spent in Singapore developing QBE’s Asian marine business.

TigerRisk Partners LLC, a Stamford, Conn.-based risk, capital and strategic adviser to the global insurance and reinsurance industries, has named Joel Hodges as partner and head of Analytics, International.

He will be responsible for overseeing all data analytics across all product lines at TigerRisk in a newly created role to help lead initiatives to improve performance across the international business.

Hodges joins from Liberty Mutual, where he was head of Portfolio Management, Global Risk Solutions. Based in London, he will report to group head of Analytics, Nathan Schwartz, and James Few, chief executive officer of TigerRisk International.

Hodges has more than 20 years’ experience in the global reinsurance industry, including senior positions with Liberty Syndicates and Wellington Underwriting. He is also a Fellow of the Institute of Actuaries.

Industry veteran Charles Chamness has joined Bain Capital Insurance as a senior advisor. He will work closely with the company in providing strategic capital and innovative solutions for the mutual insurance industry, according to Bain Capital Insurance.

Chamness served 18 years as president and CEO of the National Association of Mutual Insurance Companies (NAMIC) before retiring last year. During his NAMIC tenure, he served as chair of NAMIC Insurance Company, a professional liability insurer, chair of the St Baldrick’s Foundation (the nation’s largest private funder of pediatric cancer research grants) and as a board member of the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety.

Chamness currently serves as a board member of an independent reinsurance brokerage, a mutual property/casualty insurance company and an independent rating bureau.
