Executives On The Move at Guy Carpenter and Aviva

Guy Carpenter appointed an executive to lead its Japan operations. Aviva named an AIG veteran TO lead its international operations.

Guy Carpenter & Co. appointed Pietro Toffanello as Head of Japan, a position that will start in the 2021 first quarter.

Toffanello will be responsible for managing Guy Carpenter’s business activities across Japan. He will focus on developing new business opportunities and extending the breadth of products and services that the company offers across the region to better meet evolving client needs.

Toffanello will report to Tony Gallagher, CEO of Asia Pacific at Guy Carpenter. He’ll be based in Tokyo as soon as developments in the coronavirus pandemic allow for the move.

Toffanello, a 25-year reinsurance industry veteran, was most recently Managing Director for Property & Casualty for the UK, Ireland, Italy and Sub-Saharan Africa at Gen Re. Before that he was Managing Director and CEO of Gen Re Australia and Regional Manager for Property & Casualty treaty business for Asia and the Pacific region. He was also previously CEO of Faraday.

Aviva named AIG veteran Adam Winslow as CEO of International, a new position for the insurer, and he will start in Jan. 2021.

Winslow will also join the group executive committee, reporting to Amanda Blanc.

In his new job, Winslow will be responsible for Aviva’s international businesses in Continental Europe and Asia. Winslow has two decades of experience in the international insurance industry and is currently chief executive officer, Global Life Insurance, at AIG. Winslow has previously held several CEO roles at AIG, responsible for life insurance across a number of markets. He was also a former director of Partnerships and director of Retail at Aviva UK.

Separately, Chris Wei, Aviva’s executive chairman for Asia, has decided to leave the company, though he will continue with Aviva until the end of June 2021.
