Executives On The Move at Beazley and PartnerRe

Specialist insurer Beazley has fleshed out its U.S. Executive Risk team with new hires in New York, Boston and San Francisco. PartnerRe Ltd. appointed a new Head of Retrocession along with two new hires which further expand the company’s Retrocession Team.

Specialist insurer Beazley has fleshed out its U.S. Executive Risk team with new hires in New York, Boston and San Francisco.

• Elizabeth Cassarino joins Beazley’s Boston team as an underwriter. Most recently, Casserino served as an executive risk underwriter at Chubb. Before that she spent six years at Ace where she held several management and underwriting positions in the professional risk division.
• Jeffrey Carney also joins in Boston as an underwriter. He was previously at Aon Risk Solutions where he was senior vice president. Before Aon, Carney held various management and underwriting roles at Travelers, CNA and The Hartford.
• Allison Keenan will work with the Executive Risk underwriting team in San Francisco. She joins from Chubb where she was a senior underwriter and for the past six years worked in the public company management liability team.
• Mia Hennessey joins the New York-based underwriting team. She most recently worked at Zurich North America as assistant vice president in the management solutions group. Previously, Hennessey held similar positions in professional risk at Aon and Ace across the US.
• Also in New York, Greg Staron joins the Executive Risk underwriting team, having first joined Beazley in 2011 as an employment practices liability claims manager. He switched to underwriting in 2014 and has been focusing primarily on healthcare management liability risks.
• Melanie Saponara joins Beazley’s New York Executive Risk claims team and will primarily handle public company directors and officers (D&O) claims. She most recently served as a claims consultant at CNA responsible for D&O liability, employment practices liability, and representations and warranties. A member of the New York bar, Saponara previously worked at law firm Mendes & Mount LLP, specializing in insurance and reinsurance law.

PartnerRe Ltd. appointed Nicholas Hughes as Head of Retrocession along with two new hires which further expand the company’s Retrocession Team.

In this newly created role, Hughes will lead PartnerRe’s strengthened retrocession team as part of its strategic growth plan for Global Catastrophe. Based in PartnerRe’s Bermuda office, Hughes will continue to report to Greg Haft, CEO Global Catastrophe.

Previously, Hughes held the position of Head of Global Catastrophe at PartnerRe, including responsibility for assumed retrocession and the global accounts portfolio. He joined PartnerRe in 2008 specializing in U.S., international and retro catastrophe underwriting and portfolio management.

In a related move, Aaron Coates and Guy Hengesbaugh will join PartnerRe’s retrocession team as Assumed Retrocession Underwriters, effective November 7, 2020, and October 1, 2020 respectively.

Coates will relocate to Bermuda, subject to immigration approval and Hengesbaugh will be based in Bermuda. Both will report to Nicholas Hughes, as will Mark Mitchell, who already works as VP, Senior Underwriter within the retrocession team.

Mr. Coates joins PartnerRe from Twelve Capital, most recently as Executive Director, ILS sourcing, responsible for developing the underwriting strategy within the retro market and delivery of profitable private ILS investment portfolios to third-party investors.

Hengesbaugh, who joins on a consultancy basis, brings over 35 years of reinsurance experience – and more than 26 years in the Bermuda market – where he has most recently served as Managing Director at Guy Carpenter Bermuda, focusing on reinsurance and retrocessional business for Bermuda and U.S. clients.
