Root Insurance said it is adding homeowners coverage to its platform.

The Ohio-based InsurTech startup launched initially offering digital auto insurance, with better coverage for good drivers. Renters insurance coverage is also on the platform. Its new streamlined homeowners insurance program is now in 13 states, and Root Insurance customers who bundle with new or existing auto policies will save 10 percent on homeowners insurance.

Homeowners insurance is available through a partnership with Homesite, a national provider of home insurance, rated A (Excellent) by A.M.Best. Root Home offers easy payment setup, custom quoting, and the ability to build an initial plan all in the Root app.

Root Home is available in Arizona, Colorado, Connecticut, Delaware, Iowa, Illinois, Missouri, Nebraska, Nevada, Ohio, Oklahoma, Oregon, and Utah, and will be available in more states in the coming weeks.

Marsh and AXA XL are debuting a new usage-based policy that lets businesses meet a surge in demand for the same-day delivery of their products.

Named Marsh deliveryPRO, the customizable insurance product is designed for customers including grocers, delivery network companies, retailers, restaurants and other businesses that use individual drivers as employees or in a “gig” independent contractor capacity to meet demand delivery surges during the COVID-19 pandemic. The idea is to help cover deliveries where the drivers use their own vehicles in a way that standard commercial auto liability insurance typically won’t.

Marsh, AXA XL and data/analytics company Arity collaborated on their usage-based, price-by-mile coverage alternative.

With deliveryPRO, Marsh clients can purchase a minimum of $500,000 in exclusive third-party bodily injury and property damage auto liability capacity from AXA XL in excess of a minimum $500,000 self-insured retention for their hired and non-owned delivery exposures.

The policy acts as primary auto coverage when the driver is on an active delivery, as tracked by the deliveryPRO platform through Arity or other existing technology. Premiums are based on the number of miles driven for the delivery, allowing insurance costs to scale with a business’ growth. Pay-per-claim third-party claims administration services and claims consulting also are available.
