Executives On The Move at Guy Carpenter and Munich Re

Guy Carpenter made a number of executive appointments to strengthen its operations in Bermuda. Munich Reinsurance America chose a new chief financial officer.

Guy Carpenter & Co. made several executive appointments to strengthen its operations in Bermuda.

The company made Robert Johnston chairman of its Bermuda operations and appointed Peter Komposch as head of Casualty and Specialty, Bermuda.

Johnston has nearly 20 years of experience in Bermuda, most recently as president of Aon Reinsurance Solutions in Bermuda. He will report to John Trace, CEO of North America, and Kevin Fisher, chairman of UK and Global Specialties and chairman of London North America.

Komposch also has significant industry experience and was previously managing director of Aon Reinsurance Solutions, Bermuda. He will report directly to Johnston and John Fletcher, CEO of Bermuda.

As part of the strengthening of its Bermuda platform, Guy Carpenter has also announced that Fletcher, who has led the Guy Carpenter team in Bermuda since 2018, has been appointed as CEO of Bermuda. Fletcher will continue to report to James Boyce, CEO of Global Specialties.

In addition, Jonathan Ogilvie has been appointed to head of Retrocession, Bermuda, while Chris Dart has been appointed to head of Property Treaty, Bermuda. All three appointments are subject to approval from the Department of Immigration in Bermuda.

Munich Reinsurance America chose Oliver Horbelt as its latest chief financial officer.

Horbelt will report to Tony Kuczinski, president and chief executive officer, Munich Reinsurance America (Munich Re, US), and will be a member of the U.S. Operations Executive Board. Horbelt will oversee financial operations for the U.S. Operations, which includes Munich Re, U.S., Munich Re Specialty Insurance, American Modern Insurance Group, and Hartford Steam Boiler Inspection and Insurance Company.

Since 2015 Horbelt has served as head of Munich Reinsurance America’s Capital Partners Americas business unit where he has led a group of experts dedicated to supporting clients in addressing complex risk and capital management challenges. Horbelt joined Munich Re in 2009 as a senior executive manager responsible for the organization’s global center of competence for retroactive reinsurance based in Munich, Germany. In the past, Horbelt has held a number of leadership roles including president and CEO of Centre Solutions, principal at ILS Solutions, managing director at Swiss Re and analyst at Credit Suisse First Boston.
