Executives On The Move at Fairfax Financial Holdings, Travelers and Alliant Insurance Services

Fairfax Financial Holdings Ltd. appointed a new chief financial officer. The Travelers Companies, Inc. named two executives as Co-Chief Investment Officer. Alliant Insurance Services hired an outside executive for its Public Entity Analytics practice.

Fairfax Financial Holdings Limited appointed Jennifer Allen as its chief financial officer.

John Varnell, who was previously serving as interim chief financial officer of Fairfax, will continue serving as vice president, Corporate Development of Fairfax.

Allen is a 13 year Fairfax veteran, most recently serving as vice president of Fairfax, and chief financial officer of both Fairfax India Holdings Corporation and Fairfax Africa Holdings Corporation.

In a related move, Amy Sherk has been appointed chief financial officer of Fairfax India and Fairfax Africa. Amy has been with Fairfax for over 15 years, most recently serving as assistant vice president of Investment Accounting.

The Travelers Companies, Inc. named David Rowland and Daniel T.H. Yin each as executive vice president and Co-Chief Investment Officer.

William Heyman, who previously served as Chief Investment Officer since 2002, will remain on the company’s senior leadership team as vice chairman and continue to serve as chair of the company’s Investment Policy Committee.

Rowland and Yin have a combined tenure of 40 years at the company and have held positions of increasing responsibility within the Investments group, most recently serving as deputy Chief Investment Officers, Travelers said. Rowland is responsible for the company’s fixed income portfolio, and Yin is responsible for the company’s portfolio of equities and alternative investments.

Rowland joined Travelers in 1996, and Yin joined Travelers in 2002.

Alliant Insurance Services hired Dan Madej as senior vice president, Public Entity.

Madej will serve as the Practice Leader for the Public Entity Analytics Practice, a subdivision of Alliant Public Entity. Based in Alliant’s Chicago office, Madej will provide tools and services to complement Alliant’s position in the public entity segment, providing risk financing and risk transfer products and services to pools, Alliant said.

With 20 years of experience, Madej has a background in reinsurance in the context of working with commercial carriers and public entity pools, including actuarially-based reinsurance structure design and pricing, catastrophe modeling, and exposure management tools.

Before joining Alliant, Madej was Senior Vice President at JLT, which is now owned by Marsh.
