Executives On The Move at Chubb and CLARA Analytics

Chubb made two executive leadership appointments involving its Asia Pacific business. CLARA Analytics, an InsurTech that markets artificial intelligence technology for the commercial insurance industry, named a new CEO.

Chubb announced two leadership appointments for its Asia Pacific business, which are effective from Oct. 1, 2019.

Edward Kopp, currently country president of Chubb’s general insurance business in Thailand, has been appointed to the position of senior vice president, Accident & Health, Asia Pacific.

In his new role, Kopp will be responsible for the management and development of the accident, health and travel insurance business in the region. He will relocate from Bangkok to Singapore and report to Paul McNamee, regional president of Chubb in Asia Pacific and in matrix to John Thompson, division president, International Accident & Health.

Kopp has more than 25 years of experience in the financial services industry and a strong track record of building sustainable, profitable businesses. Before his current role, Kopp was country president of Chubb’s general insurance business in Korea and before that, held several leadership roles with HSBC and Cigna.

Subject to regulatory approval, Andrew Nisbet will replace Kopp as Chubb’s country president in Thailand. Currently senior vice president Accident & Health, United Kingdom & Ireland, Eurasia & Africa, Nisbet started his career at Chubb in 2006 as an Accident & Health account manager in his native New Zealand.

Since then, he has held numerous leadership roles with Chubb across New Zealand, Australia and Japan. In his new appointment, he will relocate from London to Bangkok and report to Glen Browne, Chubb’s deputy regional president for Asia Pacific and division president for Southeast Asia.

CLARA Analytics, which markets artificial intelligence technology for the commercial insurance industry, named a new CEO.

Gary Hagmueller has been named chief executive officer, while company founder Jayant Lakshmikanthan transitions to the role of chief product officer. Hagmueller’s addition, comes on the heels of a number of key executive hires designed to help propel broader growth.

Hagmueller is a 20 year technology industry veteran, with a particular focus on building AI and machine learning applications for the enterprise market. Over the span of his career, he has created over $7.5B in enterprise value through multiple exits. He was previously at Ayasdi, an enterprise AI company where he most recently served as COO. During his tenure at Ayasdi, he led efforts to turn the firm into a vertically focused AI application developer and is credited with building the financial services and healthcare teams that ultimately resulted in the company’s successful sale to SymphonyAI Group.

Before Ayasdi, Hagmueller was CFO of Zuora, Inc., a cloud-based subscription management platform provider. He has also served as CFO of KnowNow, COO of Vinfolio (acquired by Revolution Capital), and senior director at RouteScience Technologies (acquired by Avaya). Earlier in his career, Hagmueller was director of corporate development for NorthPoint Communications, where he helped drive its IPO. He came to NorthPoint from Verizon, where he led a business development team in the enterprise offerings group.
