Executives On The Move at CNA and Markel

CNA named a former Nasdaq executive to be its new chief procurement officer. Promoting from within, Markel Corporation named its first-ever managing director, strategic customer growth.

CNA appointed Doug Kortfelt as senior vice president and chief procurement officer.

In this role, Kortfelt leads CNA’s enterprise vendor management and procurement teams. He reports to Scott Weber, executive vice president and general counsel.

Kortfelt comes to CNA with 25 years of vendor management and procurement experience in various industries and roles. Most recently, he was chief procurement officer and global head of accounting operations with Nasdaq. Kortfelt began his career at IBM as a senior buyer and has held sourcing and procurement roles with increasing responsibility at The Walt Disney Company, Barclays (formerly Lehman Brothers) and Citigroup.

Markel Corporation named Brian Kenny as first-ever managing director, strategic customer growth.

In this new position, Kenny’s mission will be to identify new growth opportunities with key strategic customers, develop and execute business strategies, and build a pipeline of business across the Markel Assurance product lines. He is responsible for managing broker relationships and risk management accounts, including Fortune 500 companies.

Previously at Markel, Kenny led small commercial efforts, including initiatives to simplify and automate underwriting, grow digital partnerships, and expand new ventures in the U.S. Before joining Markel, he served in a variety of senior sales roles at Zurich Insurance Group.

The Markel Assurance business division offers products for standard and hard-to-place risks in the U.S., Bermuda, Dublin and London.
