A former AIG executive has returned to the insurer to take on a newly-created role. Swiss Re’s Corporate Solutions unit appointed a new executive with a North America focus.

Chris Townsend will join American International Group, Inc. as chief executive officer, International General Insurance – a newly-created role.
Townsend will be tasked with leading the International operations of AIG’s General Insurance business, and is expected to take on his new role at the company during the 2018 first quarter.
Specifically, he’ll be responsible for executing its growth strategy and building on the company’s extensive international footprint to support a profitable, client focused organization.
Townsend will report to Peter Zaffino, chief executive officer, General Insurance, as a member of the General Insurance Executive Leadership Team.
Townsend, a former AIG executive, has over 25 years of experience in the insurance industry. He previously served as president of MetLife’s Asia region, with responsibility for all businesses and operations across 11 markets in Asia, and as a member of the company’s Executive Group. He joined MetLife from AIG, where he held senior roles with increasing responsibility based out of London, New York, Singapore, Sydney and Hong Kong.
From 2010 to 2012, Townsend was Chief Executive Officer of AIG’s Asia Pacific region, with oversight of 15 countries, and helped drive capital optimization, cost efficiency and above average returns on equity.

Swiss Re’s Corporate Solutions unit appointed Jeff Summerville as Head Casualty, Financial & Professional Services North America.
In his new role, Summerville will oversee the North American Casualty business in addition to his current responsibilities as the leader of Financial and Professional lines. He succeeds Robley Moor as Head Casualty North America, who moved to Swiss Re Corporate Solutions’ Sales organization as a Key Account Manager this past summer.
Since 2014, Summerville has managed the Financial & Professional Lines businesses in North America for Swiss Re Corporate Solutions. He has overseen the expansion of the Management Liability, Professional Liability, Cyber and Transactional Liability businesses.
Focusing primarily on financial, professional liability and casualty markets, Summerville has over 25 years of positive underwriting and managerial experience. He is a subject matter expert in management liability insurance and alternative risk solutions.
