Executives On The Move at AmTrust, Chubb, Neon and GCube

AmTrust Financial Services hired an executive to handle business strategy and business development. Chubb has a new Life Sciences Industry practice leader for North America. Neon named a new director of Reinsurance and Alternative Capital. GCube brought on two new executives who were previously with RSA Group.

A veteran of PartnerRe is joining AmTrust Financial Services as its executive vice president for Business Strategy and Business Development.

J. Daniel Hickey will oversee AmTrust’s business strategy planning function. He’ll be tasked with developing and implementing a global strategic framework for AmTrust that reflects macro market trends and local market insights.

As well, Hickey will handle AmTrust’s business development, identifying and managing key partner relationships, as well as organic business opportunities available to AmTrust throughout its global business platform.

Most recently, Hickey was at PartnerRe, a global reinsurer, as executive vice president and Head of the Standard Lines business unit where he had executive leadership, strategic planning and underwriting responsibilities for the unit.

Before PartnerRe, Hickey was at General Reinsurance Corporation, most recently as [resident – North America Treaty Reinsurance.

Hickey is based at AmTrust’s New York City headquarters and reports directly to Barry Zyskind, AmTrust’s chairman and CEO.

Chubb named Lee Farrow as its executive vice president and Life Sciences Industry Practice Leader for North America.

In his new role, he will oversee the strategy, operations and underwriting of biotechnology, pharmaceutical, supplement, and medical device customers.

As Life Sciences practice leader, Farrow will continue to lead the full spectrum of areas that produce and support Chubb’s Life Sciences business, including its specialty in insuring companies for their worldwide exposures and placing of local admitted clinical trial policies around the globe. He will report to Jim West, executive vice president, North America Industry Practice Leader.

Farrow has more than 20 years of experience in the insurance industry and has held positions in claims, underwriting and house counsel.

In a related move, Stephen Harris, senior vice president, Chubb Life Sciences, will now have expanded responsibilities in overseeing Chubb’s Major Accounts customer segment within the Life Sciences industry practice. In this expanded role, he will report jointly to Farrow and Matt Merna, chief operating officer of Chubb’s North America Major Accounts division.

Farrow succeeds Phil Fiscus who has been appointed to deputy Industry Practices Manager. Fiscus also will report to West.

Neon, a specialist Lloyd’s underwriter, said it is bringing on Mark Gibson as Reinsurance and Alternative Capital director.

Gibson will report to Managing Director Ian Martin, and oversee development of Neon’s outwards reinsurance program and third party capital strategy.

With 30 years’ experience in the sector, Gibson joins Neon from Argo Group, where he spent five years as director of Alternative Risk Markets.

Gibson started his career at Guy Carpenter, where he spent nearly 20 years, latterly as a managing director of GC Advanced Risk Solutions, the company’s capital markets arm. Before this, Gibson was at BNP where he was head of non-life business within the Fixed Income Division’s insurance solutions team.

GCube Underwriting Ltd appointed Steve Allen to the post of director and Adam Hearn as a senior underwriter.

Both will be based at the renewable energy underwriter’s London office.

Previously, Allen and Hearn were at RSA Group, where Allen served as Engineering, Construction and Renewable Energy Director, and Hearn spent more than 20 years as an underwriter in the power and engineering sectors, focused on renewable energy.

At GCube, Allen will focus on expanding the underwriting platform across new classes and defining the global growth strategy for new territories. Hearn, in turn will focus on solar and wind energy in the emerging markets, as GCube continues to expand its London-based team in support of project developers, asset owners and investors driving the growth of renewable energy around the world.
