The Hartford has given one of its major executives some additional responsibilities.

Mo Tooker, hired as chief underwriting officer for P/C operations less than two years ago, is now also head of the insurer’s Middle Market segment. As before, Tooker will report to Doug Elliot, president of The Hartford.

In a statement, Elliot said that Tooker has helped boost The Hartford’s abilities in product development and underwriting, as well as expand its cyber and multinational insurance offerings. In his added role, Tooker and his team will “continue to focus on profitably growing the franchise through disciplined underwriting and sales execution,” he said.

The Hartford’s Middle Market segment handles comprehensive, multiline commercial insurance coverage for midsize and larger businesses, associations and organizations. Its basic offerings include property, general liability, workers compensation, auto, umbrella liability and marine protection. Specialty coverages for technology, life sciences, construction and other target industry segments is also in the mix.

Tooker was named president of General Re in 2013 before departing in January 2015 after more than two decades with the Berkshire Hathaway-owned reinsurer. The Hartford hired him in July 2015.
