Executives On The Move at XL Group, Swiss Re and Hannover Re

cm-executives-on-the-move-square-3-capsXL Group hired a longtime Lloyd’s of London executive for a newly created position. Hannover Re promoted three people in various, key roles. Swiss Re has a new CEO of its North America division.

Lloyd’s of London’s Chief Risk Officer and General Counsel Sean McGovern is joining XL Group/XL Catlin in a newly created role at the company.

McGovern will be XL’s chief compliance officer and head of regulatory & government affairs.

Xl CatlinAs chief compliance officer, McGovern will be responsible for corporate and regulatory compliance. He’ll report to the Audit Committee of the board and to CEO Mike McGavick. He’ll also lead global regulatory and government affairs tasks.

McGovern had been with Lloyd’s of London since 1996. He became a director and Lloyd’s general counsel in 2002. In 2014, he became chief risk officer and joined Lloyd’s Franchise Board, at which point he handled risk governance, plus global legal, regulatory and government affairs issues for Lloyd’s of London.

Swiss Re Corporate Solutions promoted Ivan Gonzalez to the position of CEO North America.

Gonzalez, currently CEO Latin America (since 2011), will take on his new position on July 1, and be based in New York. He succeeds Bob Petrilli, who will leave Swiss Re at the end of 2016.

In his new role, Gonzalez will focus on implementing Swiss Re’s expansion strategy in the U.S. and Canada. In the short term, he’ll continue with his current responsibilities until Swiss Re names a successor.

Gonzalez joined Swiss Re 16 years ago, and has held various leadership positions with the reinsurer in Switzerland, the United States and Brazil.

Hannover Re U.S. promoted three people within the company.

Cheryl Bowen is now vice president, Shared Services Operations. She’s been with the reinsurer since 2010 and was most recently assistant vice president, Shared Services Operations, focusing on the project management responsibilities involved with boosting and integrating finance, administration and actuarial systems within the U.S.

In her new role, Bowen will jointly develop and coordinate a global Life Systems Roadmap with Hannover hannover re logoRe’s Group life operations and also manage other global initiatives that impact the U.S. She’ll continue to be based in the company’s Orlando, Fla. office.

Jodi McDonald, meanwhile, is promoted to vice president, Large Case Underwriter. Until now, she’s been assistant vice president, Large Case Underwriter, and handled/assessed the largest facultative cases sent for review by Hannover Re’s client companies. In her new role, McDonald has management responsibility over a number of new people and will still handle large face amount and jumbo risks.

Additionally, McDonald will look for ways to drive new efficiencies for Hannover Re clients. She’ll still be based in Denver, Colo.

Ronda Watson has been promoted to vice president, Human Resources. Previously, she was Human Resources manager, focusing on tasks including recruiting as well as development and launch of reward and recognition programs. In her new role, Watson will handle all U.S. employee-relations functions, including talent retention, compensation, benefits and leadership development. She’ll be based, as before, in Charlotte, N.C.
