XL Catlin Attracts Former Zurich Exec to New Leadership Role

Xl CatlinXL Catlin hired a former high-level Zurich Insurance executive to fill a new role at the company.

Dan Riordan will be president, Global Political Risk & Trade Credit. Most recently, he was CEO of Global Corporate in North America at Zurich, and before that, the insurer’s president of Specialty Products.

He joins XL Catlin as of May 2, and will be based in the United States.

Riordan will report to Neil Robertson, XL Catlin’s chief executive, Global Specialty, Insurance. Roberson, in a prepared statement, noted Riordan’s “wealth of experience” and respected reputation in the PRTC market.

Riordan is a long-time Zurich Veteran. He had held senior positions there from 1997 through 2015, according to the XL Catlin announcement. He was also president of the Berne Union from 2013 through 2015.

With Riordan’s appointment, PRTC becomes a separate underwriting unit, moving away from being part of Crisis Management.

In other recent XL Catlin news, Stephen Catlin, the insurer’s executive deputy chairman, recently joined a UN effort to help bring insurance concepts into global disaster planning.
