Executives On The Move at Swiss Re, Willis and Beazley

Swiss Re promoted from within to fill a new executive position responsible for reinsurance in Latin America.

Urs Baertschi will become president of reinsurance for Latin America as of Jan. 1, 2016. He’ll shape and guide Swiss Re’s reinsurance business in Latin America, a region that includes Mexico, Central America and South America. To make this happen, he’ll split his time between Swiss Re’s Bogota, Mexico City, Miami and Sao Paulo offices.

Baertschi is currently managing director, head of principal investments & acquisitions Americas for Swiss Re, a job that has required him to spend some time on Swiss Re acquisitions in Latin America and build relationships with client executives there.

He’ll report to Swiss Re Americas President and CEO Eric Smith and be a member of Swiss Re’s Americas management team.

Willis_logo_blueWillis Group Holdings named Alex Clayton as head of construction for Willis GB, an operating segment that includes Willis’s specialty, facultative and retail insurance businesses in Great Britain.

Right now, Clayton heads the Willis Latin American and Caribbean property team out of London. In his new role, which begins Nov. 1, Clayton will focus on leading the local construction team and overseeing risk management and broking requirements for Willis’s major construction industry clients. He’ll be based in London and work with the existing construction leadership team.

Clayton has developed experience leading a number of high-performing specialty teams at Willis, including in terrorism, general liability and property.

Former Willis executive Donovan Nowell has joined Beazley as head of broker relations, west region. In his new role, he’ll develop Beazley’s broker relationships and oversee its regional distribution strategy.

Nowell most recently served as director and executive vice president of carrier relations at Willis and was tasked with managing its North American carrier relationships. Also during his time at Willis, Nowell focused on the creation of carrier panels that specialized in key business lines and industries.

For his new job at Beazley, Nowell has moved from New York to Los Angeles, a new office for Beazley whose expansion he will help oversee.
