Lloyd’s of London and the U.S.-U.K. Fulbright Commission announced recently that they’ve extended and expanded a program designed to pursue risk-related research in the U.S.
The partnership, through the Lloyd’s Tercentenary Research Foundation, has been extended another three years from the 2016-2017 academic year. A new postgraduate funding award has been added to the initiative that will support students who pursue a Master’s degree relating to risk, in addition to two Fulbright-Lloyd’s of London Scholar Awards.
Meanwhile the recipients of the Fulbright-Lloyd’s of London Scholar Awards for 2015-16 have been chosen. They are:
Hannah Nissan, from Imperial Collage London. Nissan will pursue a 12-month research project at Columbia University’s Earth Institute focused on climate change projections and their impact on decision making in African countries.
Liam Wren-Lewis, currently at the Paris School of Economics, will spend five months at UC-Berkeley analyzing public-private partnerships for weather insurance in underinsured countries.
Sarah Fox, at Coventry University in the U.K., will pursue a six-month project at DePaul University in Chicago researching the relationship between airlines and governments.
Dominic Christian, chairman of Lloyd’s Tercentenary Reserach Foundation, noted that his organization has been supporting academic research for more than 25 years.
“We are delighted to be continuing our partnership with the Fulbright Commission and to launch this new award to advance research into subjects related to the risk business,” Christian said in prepared remarks.
Applications for the new award, and the next round of the Scholar awards for the 2016-2017 year, began on Aug. 1. The closing date for applications is Nov. 6, 2015.
