Executives On The Move at CNA, Lloyds, ACE and More

We have new executive appointments to tell you about from CNA, The MEMIC Group, Lloyds, ACE Group and Beazley.

CNACNA Financial Group said it named an XL Group veteran as its new executive vice president, worldwide property & casualty claim.

Andrew Pinkes assumes his new role with the company on May 18. He’ll report to Tom Motamed, CNA’s chairman and CEO, with a focus on handling claim strategies and operations for CNA’s $6.5 billion global property/casualty arm.

Pinkes, a 20-year industry veteran, most recently served as global head of claims for the XL Group. He also has prior executive experience from stints at The Hartford and Travelers.

Workers Compensation specialist The MEMIC Group named Daniel McGarvey its new chief operating officer.

McGarvey will be charged with overseeing MEMIC’s financial accounting operations including premium audit and premium billing as well as the group’s claims department.

He’s been with MEMIC since 2009, when he was hired on as senior vice president of financing and chief financial officer.

Before MEMIC, McGarvey worked for Florida-based workers compensation insurer where he served various executive roles including executive vice president, chief financial officer and treasurer. While there, he led the company’s acquisition by AmTrust Financial Services.

Lloyd’s has appointed Richard Magrath as regional director for its Western U.S. Lloyds Buildingregion.

This district is one of four that Lloyd’s established in the U.S. in 2010 to better aid its distribution partners in the region. Lloyds noted it is the major provider of natural catastrophe capacity in the Western U.S.

Magrath is a Lloyd’s veteran, having spent more than 30 years in the global property/casualty sector. He has had assignments in London, Riyadh, Hartford, Minneapolis, Atlanta and New York. Before Lloyd’s, he founded and ran Global Legal, a technology company that provided analytics services to the U.S. and London insurance markets and large companies.

Magrath’s new position with Lloyd’s will take him to Los Angeles. He’ll be based there and handle market development work for California, Oregon, Washington, Arizona, New Mexico, Nevada, Colorado, Idaho, Wyoming, Montana, Alaska and Hawaii.

ace_logo_1Glenn O’Halloran is ACE Group’s new environmental risk underwriter, an executive appointment that continues the insurers focus on growing its environmental liability insurance business in the U.K. and Ireland.

O’Halloran, a trained environmental engineer, previously worked for ACE in Sydney, where he was the environmental risk underwriter for the Australia and New Zealand market for the last two years.

In his new role, O’Halloran will work with brokers in the U.K. and Ireland to grow ACE’s environmental liability book in the region. He’ll be based in London and report to Emma Bartolo, ACE’s U.K. and Ireland environmental risks manager. O’Halloran’s predecessor in the U.K. and Ireland – Rob Wade – is now associate vice president, environmental risk, for ACE in Canada.

Beazley has appointed XL Group veteran Colleen Dill to underwrite environmental liability risks.

The specialist insurer said that Dill’s new role will involve fixed site risks submitted by specialist brokers throughout the U.S. She’ll also underwrite business under Beazley’s pollution legal liability product, ECLIPSE, which is designed for transactions and redevelopment projects relating to brownfields and contaminated sites.

Over at XL Group, Dill was senior underwriter and focused on the more complex premises pollution liability risks. Dill is also a professional geologist and a former environmental consultant specializing in brownfield redevelopment and landfill closure.
