RateWatch Reveals Top States for Personal Auto, Homeowners Rate Hikes

Personal auto insurance companies increased their rates by an average of 2.1 percent countrywide in 2014, according to insurance consulting firm Perr&Knight’s RateWatch reports.

The three states with the highest overall increases were:

The top 5 insurance groups by premium for personal auto were State Farm (with a 2.4 percent rate change), Berkshire Hathaway (1.2 percent), Progressive (1.7 percent), Allstate (2.5 percent) and Farmers Insurance (2.0 percent).

Homeowners insurers increased their rates by an average of 3.5 percent countrywide in 2014.

The states with the highest overall rate increases were:

Two states implemented small rate decreases in homeowners in 2014, with Florida at -0.5 percent and Hawaii at -1.3 percent.

The top 5 insurance groups by premium for homeowners were State Farm (with a 3.8 percent rate change), Allstate (1.9 percent), Liberty Mutual (7.0 percent), Farmers Insurance (5.2 percent) and USAA (1.3 percent).
