Progressive Corp., the fourth largest U.S. automobile insurer, wants the world to know that it is hiring nearly 1,000 people by the end of 2014.
What’s the plan? Progressive said it will do this by filling a variety of open IT, analyst, call center, claims and corporate positions at locations in Ohio, Colorado, Florida, Texas, Arizona, and California. The Ohio-based property-casualty insurance giant is promoting the fact that it offers flexible work arrangements including working from home and compressed work weeks, plus performance bonuses, a casual dress code and on-site medical facilities, among other benefits.
A Progressive spokesperson told Carrier Management via email that the hiring will address “a combination of attrition and growth.” The company said it already has 26,000 employees.
Progressive has been spending aggressively in order to grow its market share. The company doled out $595.4 million on advertising in 2013, a $70 million hike over the previous year and the largest increase among all U.S. property/casualty insurers, an analysis by SNL Financial concluded in July.
GEICO, however, remained at number one, spending $1.18 billion on advertising in 2013. Allstate Corp. and State Farm Mutual Automobile Insurance Co. ranked second and third, respectively, and Progressive place fourth, SNL said.
