Donegal Group CEO Goes on Medical Leave

September 2, 2014

The CEO of insurance holding company Donegal Group Inc. (DGI) is taking a temporary leave of absence due to medical reasons.

DGI did not detail Donald Nikolaus’ specific medical issues. But the company released a statement from the executive emphasizing that he will resume his full duties when the medical issue is resolved.

“I am committed to remain as active as I can be in our business as my health permits and plan to return at the conclusion of my medical leave,” Nikolaus said.

In the interim, Kevin Burke, DGI’s executive vice president and chief operating officer, will serve as acting chief executive officer. Nickolaus will also continue as President and CEO of Donegal Mutual Insurance Company and in various other roles during his recovery, DGI said.

As far as his interim replacement as group CEO, Nikolaus’ statement addresses that, too.

“I am confident that Kevin Burke and the other members of our experienced management team will successfully execute our strategic business plans,” he said.

Pennsylvania-based DGI, through its insurance subsidiaries, offers personal and commercial property and casualty insurance products in 22 Mid-Atlantic, Midwestern, New England and Southern states.
