Winners Announced for 2014 Shin Research Excellence Awards

April 8, 2014

The Geneva Association and the International Insurance Society (IIS) have announced the winners of their collaborative insurance research program, the Shin Research Excellence Awards, which is endowed by Kyobo Life Insurance Co.

The winning research will be presented during the IIS 50th Annual Seminar in London June 22-25, attended by 600-plus senior insurance leaders from around the globe. The research will also be published in The Geneva Papers on Risk and Insurance as well as in an advanced online publication and distributed by the IIS and The Geneva Association.

The joint research program was established to promote practically oriented, applied research in insurance, addressing subjects that directly influence business operations. Each year research is solicited from leading academics worldwide on a highly relevant topic; a panel of distinguished judges then determines the most worthy research based on a set of strict criteria.

The subject of the 2014 Call for Papers is “Advances in Science and Technology: Implications for the Insurance Industry.” This topic parallels the theme of the London Seminar, “The Impact of Science and Technology on the Insurance Industry,” which will address the advantages and consequences of technological dependency and innovative advancements for the industry.

The research submissions are reviewed before a committee of independent judges representing prominent insurance universities and leading global insurance companies. Following a comprehensive review, the IIS panel of judges selected the following research to be recognized with the prestigious Shin Research Excellence Award:

Insurability of Cyber Risk: An Empirical Analysis

An Examination of the Geographic Aggregation of Catastrophic Risk
