The Institutes, Univ. of Wisconsin Team Up on Insurance Manager Program

The Institutes have partnered with the Wisconsin School of Business at the University of Wisconsin-Madison to offer a Leadership Development program designed for property/casualty insurance managers and supervisors to be held in May.

Training will focus on how to transition from functional management to leadership through a greater understanding of the insurance industry, business and people.

During the five-day interactive seminar, scheduled for May 18 to 23, participants will:

• Develop leadership skills to make a positive impact within their organization
• Deepen their understanding of organizational dynamics
• Gain relevant knowledge that will help them advance up the management ranks
• Enhance strategic business acumen and decision-making skills
• Build a new network of fellow industry participants

According to Peter L. Miller, CPCU, president and chief executive officer of The Institutes, the management development program is designed for high-level industry managers and supervisors looking to transition from managers to emerge as leaders of their organizations and those in the position to implement organizational strategies.

In addition to faculty members from the Wisconsin School of Business, instructors include two executives from CUNA Mutual Group, Kathy Blumenfeld and Daniel Kaiser, as well as Jim Swanke, who is global director of enterprise risk management for Towers Watson.

Some course titles include:

• “Distinguishing the Roles of Management and Leadership,” on the transition track.
• “Understanding the Competitive Landscape,” on the strategy track
• “Employee Engagement” and “Talent Advocacy,” and “Culture and Strategy” on the leadership track
