Ironshore Inc. announced that Michael E. Morrill has been appointed to its board of cirectors, serving as chairman of the Underwriting and Risk Committee.
Morrill is the former deputy chairman of AXIS Reinsurance Group, as well as chairman, chief executive officer and president of AXIS Reinsurance U.S. within the AXIS Capital Group, headquartered in Bermuda. During his tenure with Axis, from 2002 to 2011, he launched and managed the multi-line reinsurance business plan for AXIS Re, supervising all business lines underwritten in the U.S.
Morrill’s professional career spans more than 30 years. Prior to joining AXIS Capital, he was appointed chairman, CEO and president of Gerling Global Reinsurance Corp. of America to implement underwriting and organizational reform during its operational transition. He also served as senior vice president and chief underwriting officer of North America for Transatlantic Reinsurance Co. for five years, responsible for both treaty and facultative reinsurance with premium volume of $1 billion.
Morrill began his reinsurance career as a senior research analyst with General Reinsurance Corp. and subsequently held various leadership positions with Munich American Reinsurance Co., Cologne Reinsurance Company of America, and Christiania General Insurance Company of New York.
