ACE Names Sullivan Chairman for Asia Pacific; Ortega, McNamee to New Posts

The ACE Group has named Damien Sullivan as chairman of the company’s Asia Pacific region. He is currently the region’s president. As chairman he will focus on governance, strategic planning and senior customer relationships across the region, which spans North and Southeast Asia, Australia and New Zealand, said the announcement.

Sullivan will continue to report to John Keogh, vice chairman and chief operating officer, ACE Limited, and chairman, Insurance – Overseas General, and will relocate from Singapore to Australia.

Juan Luis Ortega will succeed Sullivan as regional president, Asia Pacific, with overall responsibility for the general management and business results of the commercial and personal property and casualty and personal accident insurance operations in the region’s 12 countries and territories. He is currently senior vice president and head of Accident & Health for the region. Ortega will continue to be based in Singapore and will report to both Keogh and Sullivan.

In a related appointment, Paul McNamee has been named deputy president, Asia Pacific. He is currently division president, North America Property & Specialty Lines. McNamee will lead the commercial P/C business in the region as well as have direct responsibility for several key strategic markets. He will relocate from Philadelphia to Singapore and report to Ortega.

All of the appointments are effective September 1, 2013.

Sullivan joined ACE in 2002. He has 30 years of experience in the insurance industry, and has held senior underwriting and general management positions in Europe and Asia Pacific. Prior to his role as regional president, which he assumed in 2010, he served as executive vice president and chief operating officer for Asia Pacific, and prior to that he served as president of ACE’s Australia and New Zealand businesses.

Ortega joined ACE in 1999 and assumed his current position as head of the region’s accident and health insurance business in 2010. Prior to this assignment, he was the senior vice presdient and regional head of Accident & Health for ACE’s Latin America operations. Previously, he served as president for ACE in Chile from 2005 to 2008 and has held other senior management positions with ACE in Mexico, Miami, Puerto Rico and Ecuador.

McNamee joined ACE in 1995 in Australia and was named head of Property and Technical Lines for Asia Pacific in 2002, based in Singapore. He went on to become the chief operating officer for ACE in Hong Kong before being posted to London in 2005 as the executive vice presdient and head of ACE’s International Property & Technical Lines business. He assumed his current role in North America in 2009.
