Looking Into the Future: Writing, Underwriting and Generative AI

In an age where anyone with a computer can be a graphic designer, it’s no surprise that magazines are starting to experiment with using artificial intelligence to create their visuals. And while some may worry that this trend will lead to the loss of jobs for human designers, AI-created images still require a lot of creative direction and editorial oversight.

For Guy Boccia, a freelance graphic designer and art director based in Milan, Italy, working with AI is just another tool in his design arsenal. “I see generative AI as an extension of what we’ve been doing for years with Photoshop or Illustrator,” he says. “It’s a way to quickly create variations on a theme or explore new ideas.”
