Executive Summary

Endurance Specialty is gaining relevance in the specialty insurance market as it adds new underwriter leaders, some specifically tapped by CEO John Charman and others attracted to the underwriting culture Charman is building, CFO Michael McGuire said at an industry conference this week.

Endurance CFO Michael McGuire gave an overview of the changes taking place at the company since Charman’s late-May appointment during the Keefe, Bruyette & Woods Insurance Conference in New York.

“There are key areas that we’re not particularly relevant in or where we don’t have a position,” McGuire said, later identifying the London professional liability insurance market as one of them. “Based on John’s 40-plus years’ experience in the industry and his pretty significant Rolodex, his ability to draw people into those lines…is significant,” McGuire said, responding to an opening question posed by Meyer Shields, who heads KBW’s property/casualty insurance research team.
