Sompo International picked an executive to lead its new U.S. Insurance Environmental unit. AXIS Re named a new Head of Agriculture Reinsurance.

Sompo International Holdings Ltd. has appointed an executive to lead its new U.S. Insurance Environmental unit, which is designed to augment existing capabilities offered by its Global Risk Solutions industry verticals.

Jessica Huhn-Kenzik leads the division and has the title of senior vice president. She brings 15 years of underwriting management experience to the Bermuda-based specialty property/casualty insurer. Previously, she served as part of the team that launched Catlin’s Environmental unit and, most recently, led Pioneer Underwriters’ Environmental Liability business.

A former practicing environmental lawyer and environmental claims attorney, Huhn-Kenzik, reports to Christopher Sparro, CEO, U.S. Insurance and is based in Conshohocken, Pa.

In addition to Sompo International’s current environmental offerings, the new U.S. Insurance Environmental unit will provide contractors professional and pollution liability coverage for environmental professionals and consultants, specialty and trade contractors, general contractors and construction managers.

AXIS Re promoted Michael Leahey to Head of Agriculture Reinsurance, effective July 1.

In this role, Leahey will be responsible for setting the strategy, optimizing our portfolio and leading the underwriting of AXIS Re’s agriculture business. He will continue to be based in Zurich and will report to Ann Haugh, President Global Markets for AXIS Re.

Leahey has worked at AXIS Re since 2017, most recently as a Senior Property Underwriter. From August 2019 to January 2020, he was Interim Head of Property EMEA LatAm. Prior to his work at AXIS, Leahey held various senior underwriting property and casualty positions in the industry.
