XL Catlin is boosting monoline equipment breakdown insurance underwriting capabilities for its North America Property business. The insurer hired or promoted three new executives to help get the job done.

The new underwriting recruits to the division include:

  • Amanda Hernandez. The California-based executive has more than a decade of experience in equipment breakdown underwriting, most recently as regional manager for Zurich’s Global Corporate Property division.
  • Amy Fox. Fox, based in Missouri, has 21 years of equipment breakdown underwriting, marketing and sales experience. XL Catlin cites her “proven track record of experience working with clients throughout the Midwest.”
  • Richard Hajduk. The Illinois-based executive is a 25-year veteran of the equipment breakdown insurance market. XL Catlin said his experience covers areas including agricultural, food processing, manufacturing and warehousing.

Validus Holdings appointed Scottsdale Insurance Company veteran Gary Tiepelman as senior vice president of Western World Insurance Company, effective Nov. 16.

Tiepelman will be tasked with opening and managing Western World’s Scottsdale, Arizona office, writing on behalf of Western World beginning in January 2016. He’ll also be tasked with assembling an underwriting team for the Scottsdale office.

Before joining Western World, Tiepelman was senior vice president, underwriting and marketing at Scottsdale. Previously, he held management positions at insurers including Great Southwest Fire Insurance and Acceptance Insurance.

allianz_flagge2Allianz Global Corporate & Specialty, a member of Allianz Group, brought on a former Zurich Insurance executive to run market management efforts in Canada.

As head of market management, Robert Fellows will handle overall global broker management as well as distribution and client management.

Fellows, a veteran insurance executive, served most recently as senior vice president, distribution and regional management for Zurich, Canada. Before this, he was president and chief agent for Travelers Canada.

William McElroy will be Aspen Insurance’s new global head of environmental.

The insurance arm of Aspen Insurance Holdings Ltd. said that McElroy’s appointment is effective on Nov. 16. He’ll lead Aspen Insurance’s global environmental practice, and be tasked with launching a new global platform around product capabilities and distribution across various markets and geographies.

Before joining Aspen, McElroy was senior vice president at Liberty International Underwriters.

Houston International Insurance Group (HIIG) hired Mark Haushill as executive vice president and chief financial officer.

Haushill starts his new job at the specialty insurer on Dec. 1, and will report directly to HIIG founder and CEO Stephen Way. Additionally, he’ll be a member of HIIG’s executive management group and director of various group companies.

Before HIIG, Haushill was chief financial officer of American Safety Insurance Holdings, Ltd., which was acquired by Fairfax Financial Holdings, Ltd. He was also once CFO of Argo Group International Holdings.

HIIG, an insurance holding company based in Houston, has subsidiary offices through the U.S.
